Abstract

ENGLISH: Poetic imagery is a concrete representation of impression, feeling, or an idea which appeals to one or more of our senses that has its own meaning with unusual language, and often used in literary work, especially poetry. This means that generally imagery is to remind more than just making an impression of a new thought that includes the five senses used so that the reader can take part in the creation of poetry. This research tried to elaborate such poetic imagery and for this the researcher took Robert Frost’s selected poems as the object of the research. In this research, the problems were focused on two things, they are: first, the problem on the types of imagery and second, the problem on the process of poetic imagery defamiliarization related to the meaning of hope. In analyzing these two problems, the researcher chose two theories namely the theory of types of imagery from Altenbernd and Perrine which consists of visual imagery, auditory imagery, tactile imagery, kinaesthetic imagery, olfactory imagery and gustatory imagery. The second theory is about defamiliarization from Skhlovsky, that is, the technique of making objects unfamiliar through poetic imagery itself, making forms difficult, increasing the difficulty and length of perception, and such of length of perception is to reaveal the meaning of hope. Based on the theory chosen above then this research took the objective approach; that is analyzing the literary work based on its literary devices, which is focusing here on poetic imagery. The results of this study showed that first, there were poetic imagery used in Robert Frost’s selected poems consisted of visual imagery, auditory imagery, kinaesthetic imagery, olfactory imagery and gustatory imagery that made the poems more beautiful and meaningful; and second, there were some meanings of hope resulted from the process of defamiliarization, among others are optimism and consistency in life INDONESIA: Citraan puitis adalah representasi konkret dari kesan, perasaan, atau ide yang menarik bagi satu atau lebih indera kita yang memiliki maknanya sendiri dengan bahasa yang tidak biasa, dan sering digunakan dalam karya sastra, terutama puisi. Ini berarti bahwa gambaran umum adalah untuk mengingatkan lebih dari sekadar membuat kesan pemikiran baru yang mencakup panca indera yang digunakan sehingga pembaca dapat mengambil bagian dalam penciptaan puisi. Penelitian ini mencoba menguraikan citra puitis tersebut dan untuk ini peneliti mengambil puisi yang dipilih Robert Frost sebagai objek penelitian. Dalam penelitian ini, masalah difokuskan pada dua hal, yaitu: pertama, masalah pada jenis citra dan kedua, masalah pada proses defamiliarisasi citra puitis terkait dengan makna harapan. Dalam menganalisis dua masalah ini, peneliti memilih dua teori yaitu teori jenis pencitraan dari Altenbernd dan Perrine yang terdiri dari pencitraan penglihatan, pencitraan pendengaran, pencitraan sentuhan, pencitraan gerakan, pencitraan penciuman, dan pencitraan pengecap. Teori kedua adalah tentang defamiliarisasi dari Skhlovsky, yaitu, teknik untuk membuat objek yang tidak dikenal melalui citraan puitis itu sendiri, membuat bentuk menjadi sulit, meningkatkan kerumitan dalam mempersepsi objek, dan memanjangkan persepsi untuk mengungkap kembali makna harapan. Berdasarkan teori yang dipilih di atas, maka penelitian ini mengambil pendekatan objektif; yaitu pendekatan yang menganalisis karya sastra berdasarkan perangkat sastranya, yang di sini difokuskan pada citra puitis itu sendiri. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pertama, ada citra puitis yang digunakan dalam puisi pilihan Robert Frost yang terdiri dari pencitraan penglihatan, pencitraan pendengaran, pencitraan sentuhan, pencitraan gerakan, pencitraan penciuman, dan pencitraan pengecap. yang membuat puisi lebih indah dan bermakna; dan kedua, ada beberapa makna harapan yang dihasilkan dari proses defamiliarisasi, antara lain optimisme dan konsistensi dalam kehidupan.
