Abstract

ENGLISH : This research focuses on finding the comparison of masculinity representation from Dracula in Dracula Novel and Hotel Transylvania using Janet Saltzman Chafetz’s theory of masculinity. In Dracula Novel, Dracula is portrayed as an evil and diabolical creature, meanwhile in the Hotel Transylvania Dracula portrayed as a man who loves his daughter, even he is cruel outside he still shows his considerate personality. Due to the different characterization which widely-known, the writer proposed three problems related to the concepts of masculinity from Chafetz: 1). How are the physical build of Dracula represented in Bram Stoker’s Dracula and Hotel Transylvania Movie? 2). How are the intellectuals of Dracula represented in Bram Stoker’s Dracula and Hotel Transylvania Movie? 3). How are the interpersonal sides of Dracula represented in Bram Stoker’s Dracula and Hotel Transylvania Movie? In this research, it was not only found the masculinity that showed by Dracula but also the aspects that help to construct the masculinity represented in the two works using intrinsic and extrinsic elements of literary work with the help of structuralist activity theory to scrutinize and make it more elaborative and reasonable. This research also uses comparative theory to compare both works, besides using it as a basic theory of comparing two works comparative literature also become the method that used in this research. This research also use structuralist approach as it adopts the structuralist activity in analysing the data. The results of the research show that Dracula in both works indeed represents the similar and different masculinities, including on what aspects that build represent the masculinity. Both works share the similar physical features of Dracula with slightly different features, and from the intellectual aspects Dracula also shares the same intellectual traits, it also same goes to the interpersonal sides area. The aspects are somehow similar from each work and the differences are only shown from story within story that only showed in the novel, references, plot that revealed because it affected by the action of Dracula, and the language of film which belongs only to the movie analysis. INDONESIA : Penelitan ini berfokus pada perbandingan representasi maskulintas dari Dracu-la dalam novel Dracula dan Film Hotel Transylvania menggunakan teori maskulini-tas dari Janet Saltzman Chafetz. Dalam Novel, Dracula digambarkankan sebagai seseorang yang jahat dan kejam sementara di dalam film Dracula digambarkan se-bagai seseorang yang menyayangi anaknya meskipun dia kejam di luar dia masih memperlihatkan kepribadiannya yang penuh perhatian. Karena perbedaan karak-terisasinya yang sudah dikenal oleh masyarakat luas, penulis mengusulkan tiga permasalahan yang berhubungan dengan konsep maskulinitasdari Chafetz: 1). Bagaimana bentuk jasmani dari Dracula direpresentasikan di dalam Novel Dracula karya Bram Stoker dan Film Hotel Transylvania? 2). Bagaimana intelektual Dracu-la direpresentasikan di dalam Novel Dracula karya Bram Stoker dan Film Hotel Transylvania? 3). Bagaimana sisi interpersonaldari Dracula direpresentasikan di dalam Novel Dracula karya Bram Stoker dan Film Hotel Transylvania. Penelitian ini tidak hanya mencari kemaskulinitasan yang diperlihatkan oleh kedua Dracula tapi juga aspek-aspek yang membantu membangun maskulinitas yang direpresentasikan dalam kedua karya melalui elemen intrinsik dan ekstrinsik dalam karya sastra dengan didukung oleh penggunaan teori aktifitas strukturalis untuk meneliti dengan cermat, membuat penelitian lebih terurai jelas dan masuk akal. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori perbandingan untuk membandingkan kedua karya, dan untuk metode yang dipakai dalam penelitian. Penelitian ini juga menggunakan pendekatan strukturalis karena penelitian ini menerapkan aktifitas strukturalis dalam menganalisis data. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa Dracula di kedua karya memper-lihatkan persamaan dan perbedaan dalam hal kemaskulinitasan, juga dalam aspek yang membangun representasi dari maskulinitas itu sendiri. Kedua karya menun-jukkan kesamaan bentuk jasmani dengan sedikit perbedaan, dan dalam aspek in-telektual juga Dracula menunjukkan ciri-ciri yang sama dan itu juga berlaku untuk sisi interpersonal. Aspek-aspek yang membantu merepresentasikan maskulinitas juga terlihat persamaannya di dua karya tersebut, perbedaannya juga hanya terlihat dari cerita di dalam cerita yang hanya ada pada novel, referensi, plot yang di-pengaruhi oleh aksi Dracula dan bahasa film yang hanya dimiliki dan digunakan saat analisis film.
