Abstract
The purpose of this research is to analyze conversational implicature in “60 Minutes Interview: President-elect Donald Trump” interview script, which conversational implicatures are mostly found in formal or informal interview. In this case, the aims of this research are: (1) to identify the flouting maxims as the identification of conversational implicature in the conversation of “60 Minutes Interview: President-elect Donald Trump”, (2) to discover the types of conversational implicature that identified in the conversation of “60 Minutes Interview: President-elect Donald Trump”. This research utilizes cooperative principle from Grice (1975) and conversational implicature from Yule (1996) which is supported with theory of pragmatics from Leech (1989) and Griffiths (2006), context from Yule (1996) and Leech (1989). The method of this research is using descriptive qualitative approach. The research questions will be answered in analytical description. The object study is picked up by official website media online. The flouting maxims are analyzed using Gricean theory which can discover the identification of conversational implicature. Then, types of conversational implicature are analyzed using Yule’s theory which is a development theory of Gricean implicature. The result of this reserach shows that there are twenty one data collected from one interview script. Those collected data resulted the flouting of maxims which are quality, quantity, relevance and manner. From those flouting of maxims, conversational implicatures are discovered and categorized into two types. Those types are generalized conversational implicature and particularized conversational implicature.
