Abstract
This undergraduate thesis discusses the narrative discourse structure in Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction movie script. Pulp Fiction (1994) Pulp Fiction is known as one of the best crime and drama genre movie. Pulp Fiction directed by Quentin Tarantino. Quentin Tarantino and Roger Avery wrote the script. The movie presented many drops of blood, fights, and gun in the scenes. This movie also provides us with many “nigga” words. This movie also presents us with much dialogue, which contains some terms of narrative discourse. Then, there are so many characters that have the same function as the narrator, which is the same as one of the narrative discourse terms, mood, or focalization. . The researcher formulated two research questions in this research. The first question was what are kinds of narrative level that consists in Pulp Fiction movie script. The second question was about how the narrative discourse constructed in Pulp Fiction movie script. In this undergraduate thesis the author used theories put forward by Gérard Genette (1980). The methodology of this research was descriptive qualitative. There were five terms of narrative discourse, the first was mood, the second was voice, the third was order, the fourth was frequency, and the fifth was duration. Then, there were three level of narrative. The first was narrative, the second was narration, and the third was story. Moreover, the researcher analyzed the narrative level and narrative discourse used the theory of narrative discourse from Gérard Genette (1980). As the result, in Pulp Fiction movie script, the researcher found all the three levels of narrative. Moreover, the researcher also found all of the five terms of narrative discourse from Gérard Genette (1980). As the result, the narrative level and the narrative discourse terms can be found through the dialogues, the setting, and the act from the characters.
