Abstract

Song has many kinds of imagery from each lyric to make a beautiful lyric so the reader and the listener can be interested to hear the song. This research analyzed about kinds and meaning of imagery in the Westlife’s Song in Lyric and Coast to Coast and Spectrum Albums by using imagery theory of Robert Diyanni. The research method used in this research is qualitative method. The researcher focuses on finding and describing the 5 kinds of imagery from each lyrics of song. The researcher identified the imagery by reading all of the lyrics song. Then the researcher classified the imagery by analyzed from word to word and phrases that contained the imagery from the lyric of the songs. Next, the researcher interpreted the lyrics to several forms of imagery. The researcher drew a conclusion. Based on data analysis, it shows there are 460 data from five kinds of imagery in this research. The data divides into 139 data of visual imagery in Coast to Coast album, 72 data of visual imagery in Spectrum album, 57 data of aural imagery in Coast to Coast album, 37 data of aural imagery in Spectrum album, 57 data of tactile imagery in Coast to Coast album, 86 data of tactile imagery in Spectrum album, 5 data of olfactory imagery in Coast to Coast album, 2 data of olfactory imagery in Spectrum album, 3 data of gustatory imagery in Coast to Coast album, and 2 data of gustatory imagery in Spectrum album. The results of this research shows that visual imagery becomes the most common types used on “Spectrum” and “Coast to Coast albums and gustatory imagery becomes the least types used on “Spectrum” and “Coast to Coast” albums.
