Abstract

This research discusses Slavery Toward in Twelve Years A Slaves Movie. The aim of this research is to explain how Solomon suffered from slavery as seen by the form of racism and the particular difficulties of black women in slavery. This research uses qualitative research because used data are presented in the form of a film script and a structuralism approach to interpret slavery from a temporary perspective. As the findings of this study, researcher found some sufferings experienced by Solomon from slavery as seen from its form of racism, namely discrimination is negative treatment with superiors as perpetrators and inferior group as victim, violence is a form of crime that oppresses a person or group to become inferior adn helpless, violence based on problems of skin color, ethnicity and nationality a form known as racial violence. Racial violence is a form of violence whose root cause is related to attitudes of superiority and dislike of orhers. There are several abuses experienced by Solomon from slavery, namely physical violence occurs when a person uses a body part or object to control a person’s actions, sexual violence occurs whensomeone is accidentally forced to engage in sexual activity, emotional violence occurs when someone says or does something that makes someone feeling stupid or wothless, psychological violence occurs when a person uses threats and causes immediate fear to gain control. And finally there is prejudice, which is an unfair assessment of the minority given by the majority group without any explanation that is widely used as the reason for cultural differences. There are certain difficulties experienced by black women in slavery, namely that they are always the object of their mistress' jealousy and the objectivity of sexual satisfaction by their masters, or it can be called forced marriage, which is a form of slavery if one of the parties, usually a woman, experiences violence, threats, intimidation, etc. And they are required to engage in sexual activity and do household shores and other work without personal control. Therefore, the researcher argues that the master has authority over slaves rights. Slaves were not given freedom.
