Abstract

The language has 2 criterias, frist it has sound, and second it has meaning. Without meaning, language cannot fulfill the function its needed as social communication tools which in communication is the process of transfer of meaning that occurs in society. Meaning is mental imagery but in analyzing meaning, there is no need to have super power to read minds. Just pay attention to the symbols, the form of words in the language and the arrangement in syntax. Language in politics is a subjective communication tool. If the truth in politics is subjective, the definition of terrorism is also subjective. Terrorism is not ideology. Terrorism is a war strategy. This terrorism strategy succeeded in destroying the symbol of American economic superiority, the WTC building, and also damaging the American defense symbol, the Pentagon building. The 11 September 2011 tragedy is evidence of how terrorism has changed the world. The tragedy that claimed the soul. Giving The trauma, so that trigger the world's reaction in condemning terrorism. This tragedy has changed the way the world looks at everything including Islam. George W Bush's speech "Address to Nation 911" was chosen as the object of research. This speech was chosen because it represents the official government of the United States of America over the terrorist attack on the WTC building. This speech was a quick reaction of Goerge W Bush because it was read at night after the event. Then this speech can be seen by America against terrorism by describing what kinds of meanings are in the speech "Adress to Nation 911" In this research. Researcher has assamble research questions to be answered, that is: 1) How are the words in George W Bush's speech "Address to the Nation 911" in CNN after the September 11 tragedy according to Geofrey Leech? 2) What are the types of meaning according to Geofrey Leech used by George W Bush's speech "Address to the Nation 911" in CNN after the September 11 tragedy?. Researchers try to answer questions in research with the theory of seven types of meaning according to Geofrey Leech. The 7 types of meanings are conceptual meanings, connotative meanings, social meanings, affective meanings, reflected meanings, collocative meanings, and thematic meanings. Before grouped in 7 types of meaning, it is first described by syntax This research uses descriptive qualitative method in which the researcher tries to describe the types of meaning in objective speech. This research forms inductive which summarizes the facts into one conclusion. The result of this research is the researcher found Total of 14 samples have conceptual meaning, 3 sample have connotative meaning, 11 sample have afective meaning and 2 sample have thematic meaning in this speech
