Abstract

This research examines the form of turn taking strategy found in the film Avengers: End Game (2019). The focus of this research is on the form of turn taking strategy, also identification of turn taking strategies. The turn-taking strategy is how speakers change and adjust their turn when they speak. This study uses the film Avengers: End Game (2019) as research objects. The purpose of this study is to find out the types of turn taking strategies and find out how the components of turn taking sentences. The theoretical study used in this research is the theory of Sacks et al (1974) about turn taking strategies. Sacks et al. (1974) reveals that there are some kinds to take the turn: back-channeling, overlapping, completion, body talk also silence for not taking the turn. This researcher uses descriptive qualitative methods and uses data collection methods by collecting document data relating to this turn taking research. The data collected to conduct this research was taken from the Avengers: End Game (2019) movie script along with some images from the film to support the primary data from this study. This researcher analyzes the data that has been collected by identifying each of these data and classifying the data into types of turn taking strategies. Based on the results of this study, this researcher finally concluded that Turn-taking in conversation analysis is very important to learn in conversation interactions because they can be used to see how participants manage, take to talk and take turns in interactions. It's also important to arrange conversations when interacting that works very smoothly. Theoretically, the researcher hope that this research is useful and contributes to the field of conversation analysis. Also in practically, this research will be the benefit of the reader and an interest in understanding conversation analysis.
