Abstract

ENGLISH: The present study was carried out to identify and analyze the linguistic features of online news in terms of graphological, phonological, lexical and syntactic features. Therefore, this study aims to observe the linguistic features used in BBC and Voa news. After that, this study analyzes the effects of these linguistic features on the texts. This research is qualitative and comparative analysis which is based on the secondary data. The data in this study have been collected through purposive sampling procedure to select news of ten BBC news and ten VoA news. Those data are collected and analyzed using Verdonk’s theory. This study found that punctuations are the highest graphological features in both online media. In the same way, most of the phonological features used in both online media are assonance and alliteration which assonance is the highest and alliteration is the second highest. Analysis of lexical features shows that abbreviations are the highest and antonyms are the second highest. However VoA has more idiom than BBC. Moreover, past tenses are the highest and present tenses are the second highest syntactic features in both online media. In addition, in BBC Passive voices are the third highest and in VoA historical tenses are the third highest syntactic features. The linguistic features give some effects to the news texts; graphological features affect the ease and clarity of reading, phonological features provide a certain rhythm to the text which makes it memorable and beautiful, lexical features help in saving space and make words more diverse or less monotonous and grammatical features make news clearly understood about when the events occur. INDONESIA: Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengidentifikasi dan menganalisis fitur kebahasaan berita online ditinjau dari fitur grafologis, fonologis, leksikal dan sintaksis. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui fitur kebahasaan yang digunakan dalam berita BBC dan VoA. Kemudian penelitian ini dapat menemukan pengaruh fitur kebahasaan pada teks. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dan analisis komparatif yang didasarkan pada data sekunder. Data dalam penelitian ini dikumpulkan melalui prosedur sample purposive untuk memilih sepuluh berita BBC dan sepuluh berita VoA. Data tersebut dikumpulkan dan dianalisis menggunakan teori Verdonk. Hasilnya menunjukan bahwa tanda baca adalah fitur grafologis tertinggi di kedua media online. Dengan cara yang sama, sebagain besar fitur fonologis yang digunakan kedua media online adalah asonansi dan aliterasi. Analisis fitur leksikal menunjukan bahwa singkatan adalah yang paling tertinggi dan antonym adalah yang tertinggi kedua. Namun VoA memiliki idiom lebih dari BBC. Kemudian pada fitur sintaksis past tense merupakan yang paling tertinggi dan present tense tertinggi kedua. Selain itu, passive voice adalah tertinggi ketiga di BBC dan historical tense adalah tertinggi ketiga di VoA. Fitur-fitur ini memiliki pengaruh terhadap teks; fitur grafologis mempengaruhi kemudahan dan kejelasan teks, fitur phonologis memberikan ritme tertentu pada teks yang membuatnya mudah diingat dan indah, fitur leksikal membantu dalam menghemat ruang dan membuat kata-kata lebih beragam atau tidak monoton dan fitur sintaksis membuat berita mudah dipahami dengan jelas tentang kapan peristiwa terjadi.
