Abstract

Morphology is related to correspondence between the form and term meaning of words. One of the various morphological mechanisms such as compound word. A compound word is formation deals with the creation of new words. The purposes of this research there are 1) to describe the types of compound words in the selected speech of Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. 2) to describe the forms of compound words in the selected speech of Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. 3) to describe the meaning of compound words in the selected speech of Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. This research used the theory from Plag (2002) to analyzed the types and the forms of the compound words. The object of this study is the speech of Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono were taken from PajaTapuih Website. This research is viewed as a descriptive qualitative method, it is related to data that is usually not in the form of numbers. To analyze the data, the researcher used the Miles and Huberman models. Miles and Huberman (1984), suggested that the activities in qualitative data analysis, namely: data reduction, data display, and conclusion In this research, the result showed that there are fifty-seven data of Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s speech using theory compound word, as follows; a) there are four types of compound words: there are thirty-nine data of nominal compound; ten data of adjectival compound; five data of verbal compound; and three data of neoclassical compound, b) there are three forms of compound words: there are twenty-six data of close form; there are six data of open form and twenty-five data of hyphenated form.
