Abstract

Berdasarkan International Union For Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) Lutung Jawa dikategorikan rentan (vulnerable) sedangkan Owa Jawa dan Surili terancam punah (endangered). Primate population has decreased from year to year due to human activities such as illegal hunting and forest fragmentation. One of the primate habitats is in the Gunung Tilu Nature Reserve, most of which is bordered by tea plantations and Perhutani, so that conservation efforts are needed to determine the existence of primates and their potential threat. This conservation area covering an area of 7,478 ha has the potential endemic Javan primates consisting of Javan Langur (Trachyphitecus mauritius), Javan Gibbon (Hylobates moloch) and Surili (Presbytis comata). Based on the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN), the Javan langur is categorized as vulnerable, while the Javan and Surili gibbons are endangered. The purpose of this study was to determine the distribution and population density of Java endemic primates in the Gunung Tilu Nature Reserve. This research was conducted in February – March 2021 using the purposive sampling method, by first determining the research location to know the existence of primates indirectly based on information from related parties. Field observations using line transect method with a fixed-width transect of 100 meters with a distance of 50 meters on the left and right of the lane. Based on the observations of endemic Javan primates spread over 10 observation blocks consisting of 73 individuals of Javan Langur, 10 individuals of Javan Gibbons and 41 individuals of Surili with a total is 124 individuals. The average population density is 0,8 individuals/ha and the average group density is 0,2 groups/ha.
