Abstract

Vocabulary is one of the elements in language. This is an essential part in listening, speaking, reading and writing. However there were several problems related with the vocabulary, the problems were students have less familiar with English word and they have limited knowledge understanding in English. It is related with the research. This research was motivated by the fact that some students in SMAN Jatinunggal especially in class XI still had difficulties in learning English vocabulary. To respond those problems, Word Cloud was selected as a strategy of teaching English vocabulary. Word Cloud can make teaching learning process more contextual and interested. This research aims (1) to find out the result of students’ vocabulary before implementing Word Cloud strategy, (2) to find out the result of students’ vocabulary after implementing Word Cloud strategy, and (3) to find out the significant difference between students’ vocabulary before and after implementing Word Cloud strategy. The researcher used a pre-experimental study. The sample for this research is 30 students to obtain the data, the researcher find out the score from pre-test and post-test result. The research used mean, standard deviation, t-test, and hypothesis testing to analyse the data. An achievement test was used to collect the information. The researcher can be identified by the mean of the experimental class. The mean of the pre-test before treatment is 42.8 and the mean after treatment is 75. Based on the results, it is clear that the outcome is better to that obtained after treatment. As a result of the research t testing, it is known that tcount is 5,3 and ttable is 2.04. It indicates that tcount is greater than ttable. It means, the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected, while the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. This indicates that the students' vocabulary is significant. It can be concluded that, Word Cloud strategy can improve students’ vocabulary at XI science 3 SMAN Jatinunggal. The researcher suggests that this strategy can be useful for students in learning English vocabulary.
