Abstract
Monstrous-feminine is dominating horror genre. The presentation of women as monstrous, such as Kuntilanak, La Llorona, La Sayona, Witches, Sirens, Sundel Bolong, and other women ghosts used to confront men fear of women, which rooted from the believe that women is imperfect because of their lack of penis and that they will take revenge by castrating men. Most of the representations were focused on the conceptualization of women as victims that Barbara Creed explained in her book. Through the phenomena, the researcher argued that some monstrous-feminine were not only conceptualizing women as victims but also portraying women resistance. The researcher aimed to identify monstrous-feminine in two films of two countries, namely The Curse of La Llorona and Si Manis Jembatan Ancol and then describing the portrayal of women resistance in bothof the films. The research is significant to address women struggle and resistance in order to ease their sufferings and re-conceptualizing the monstrous-feminine to not only portray women as victim but also women as fighters. The research used descriptive qualitative analysis by using Susan Bassnett theory on comparative literature. The researcher found that women monstrosity was being used to resist the violence that they endured and confront the oppressor using violent resistance. The action was showing feminism struggle to resist masculine hegemony evolving from the patriarchal culture.
