Abstract

This research, entitled "Novel ironies and Conflicts in Novel The Maze Runner". The novel is one of literature as reflective interpretation of what you do in life, reflecting their chosen language medium. Novel is a style of fiction, fiction can be defined as the art or craft entrepreneurs, through the written word, a representation of human life which instruct or divert or both. This research decided to analyze word or phrase irony contained in novel The Maze Runner. Focus of this research, there are two questions: 1. how are ironies related to conflict in the novel The Maze Runner? 2. How are the conflict solved in the novel ?. This research has used qualitative approach with descriptive methods. The qualitative procedure of research is also chosen and determined according to the necessity of the problems. So that, the researcher includes the various data to support such analysis method based on the theory that is used, implementation of this research, the researcher used theory of formalism, which formalism that have certain properties such as figurative language, poetry, Tone, and Rytme. there are parts of figurative language such as: Irony, paradox, Hyperbola, Synecdoce, Simile, Metaphor and Allegory. From all of the types of figurative language, the researcher has taken one of this forms that is irony. The results of this research, there are some irony contained in the novel, The data are using analyzed by verbal irony, dramatic irony, etc.
