Abstract
Pragmatics is a study of the mind that investigates the conditions under which people use language. These settings are largely controlled by the environment that incorporates and underpins the language. Politeness is a concept in pragmatics that includes Politeness strategies. Politeness strategy is a technique used by someone to deliver his message in a more courteous manner. Daily discussions, debates, and interview events all employ the politeness strategy. The interview with Donald Trump and an ABC NEWS News Anchor is one of the interviews that this research is concerned about. The objectives of this research is to learn how Donald Trump utilized Politeness Strategies in an interview with an ABC News news anchor. Brown and Levinson's theory of politeness strategy is used by the researcher. The descriptive and qualitative methods are used in this research. To obtain accurate data, the researcher utilized video watching, note taking, and quotations taking as an instrument. There were 2 bald on record utterances, 10 positive politeness utterances, 3 negative politeness utterances, and 4 off record utterances identified in this research. In an interview with an ABC News news anchor, the researcher discovered that positive politeness was the most prevalent strategy, and Donald Trump used four different politeness strategies based on Brown and Levinson's theory.
