Abstract

ENGLISH : Popular literature is literature that is categorized as entertainment and commercial literature. Popular literature is also divided into three genres, namely; Adventure, mystery, and romance. However, this research will only focus on Hard-boil detectives. Mystery has more sub genres and one of them is detective, which is again broken up into classic detective and Hard-boil detective. Detective fiction is a product of popular literature. There are also various types of popular literature products, some are in the form of essays and some are in the form of films. Hence, the object of this research is Rush Hour 2 movie directed by Brett Ratner and written by Jeff Nathanson. Theoretical basis used in this research is analysing detective element and hard-boil formula proposed by Cawelti, J. G. (1976). Cawelti divides hard-boiled formula into five types namely detectives as heroes, the modern city as a background, tension and threat, the role of women and change the meaning. The researcher applies qualitative descriptive method in doing this research. This method does not contain any number from the result of data. This research used the dialogues to give description of data. The data are taken from Rush Hour 2 movie script that focuses on classifying the selecting data based on the detective roles and hard-boiled formula. From these findings, the writer concludes that the hard-boiled detective contained in the Rush Hour 2 movie. INDONESIA : Sastra populer adalah sastra yang dikategorikan sebagai sastra hiburan dan komersial. Sastra populer juga dibagi menjadi tiga genre, yaitu; Petualangan, misteri, dan romansa. Namun, penelitian ini hanya akan fokus pada detektif laga. Misteri memiliki lebih banyak sub-genre dan salah satunya adalah detektif, yang lagi-lagi dipecah menjadi detektif klasik dan detektif laga. Fiksi detektif adalah produk sastra populer. Jenis produk sastra populer juga bermacam-macam, ada yang berbentuk esai dan ada pula yang berupa film. Oleh karena itu, objek penelitian ini adalah film Rush Hour 2 yang disutradarai oleh Brett Ratner dan ditulis oleh Jeff Nathanson. Landasan teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah menganalisis elemen dan formula detektif laga yang dikemukakan oleh Cawelti, J. G. (1976). Cawelti membagi rumusan detektif laga menjadi lima jenis yaitu, detektif sebagai pahlawan, kota modern sebagai latar tempat, ketegangan dan ancaman, peran perempuan dan perubahan makna. Peneliti menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dalam melakukan penelitian ini. Metode ini tidak mengandung angka apapun dari hasil data. Penelitian ini menggunakan dialog untuk memberikan gambaran data. Data diambil dari naskah film Rush Hour 2 yang berfokus pada pengklasifikasian data pemilihan berdasarkan peran detektif dan formula detektif laga. Dari temuan tersebut, penulis menyimpulkan bahwa detektif laga yang terdapat dalam film Rush Hour 2.
