Abstract

This study aims to find out the impact of woman ambition in a film. In this study, the data source is a film with the title “Marriage Story” by Noah Baumbach from Netflix and also the script of “Marriage story” film. The problem of this research is formulated in two research questions: “What are the factors of Nicole's ambitions as woman character in “Marriage Story” to reach her goals on gender equality in marriage life”, and “How does Nicole as woman character in “Marriage Story” reach her goals on gender equality in marriage life.” The data are analyzed by used the theory of the liberal feminism proposed by Madsen (2000) and Tong (2009). The writer chooses mimetic as the theoretical method to be used in this study. The results showed that there are 17 data that classified into four factors that build women's ambitions in liberal feminism in this film, it consist of seven data of discrimination, four data of equality, three data of intimidation, and three data of Nicole’s dreams. Furthermore, the second findings shows that there are 30 data that classified into nine process taken by the characters in the film to achieve her goals in this film, there are five data of propose divorce, five data of moving to Los Angeles, two data of keep the decision, five data of start career, three data of take the advice, three data of meet lawyers and attend the court, three data of Keep the distance and behave decisively to Charlie, two data of Fight for a child custody, and two data of Achieve her goals.
