Abstract

Conversation becomes a routine for everyone to communicate with the people around them. However, conversations between two or more people are usually not free from mistakes, one of which is not cooperative or says otherwise.Like the conversation that happened in the interview between Paris Lee, a British journalist,activist for transgender right and a bisexual trans woman, with Emma Watson, a British actress and activist who was best known for playing the young wizard Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter films, and also garnered attention as a spokesperson for women’s equality. In the interview, the conversation between the two could not be separated from mistakes, such as Emma and Paris were not cooperative during the conversation or said something different from what they wanted to say. Therefore, the research in Paris Lee and Emma Watson Interviews is intended to examine two research questions.1) What is the implied meaning of the conversational implicature in Emma Watson "Turning 30, Working With Meryl Streep And Being Happily Single" British Vogue Interview? 2) What is the maxim of conversation flouted by conversational implicature in Emma Watson "Turning 30, Working With Meryl Streep And Being Happily Single" British Vogue Interview? This study uses a qualitative method and the data that has been collected were analyzed with the theory supporting Grice's Conversational Implicature and flouting the maxim of the Cooperative Principle. The results of the research are obtained 12 data that contain implied meaning. Implied meaning contained in the interview between Emma Watson and Paris Lee is an action used to convey something indirectly or make it easier for people who watch the interview to understand the meaning to be conveyed. In addition, there are 16 data that are included in the flouting maxim of conversation. The maxim that is flouted the most is the maxim of quality
