Abstract
This study discusses Sundanese grammatical interference at Nurul Wafa Islamic Boarding School. This interference is a linguistic case that occurs because of contact between two or more languages. Grammatical interference itself occurs because of the transfer of grammatical elements from one language to another. As for the phenomenon of language interference at Nurul Wafa Islamic Boarding School where the use of English as a second language in their daily life caused many changes in the elements of the English sentences, especially in structural or mophological elements which were affected by elements in Sundanese that certainly resulted the errors in English. Therefore, This study aims to find the dominant type of grammatical interference, the structure of English after being influenced by the Sundanese language as well as the factors that cause Sundanese grammatical interference in Nurul Wafa. The method used in this research was descriptive qualitative, while the data collected was the result of observation and interviews. As for the theoretical basis, the researcher used Weinreich's theory of language interference. Besides, in analyzing the data the researcher used standard English grammar as the basis for structural analysis. As a result of the research, the writer found that the dominant type of grammatical interference from the collected data is "The application of grammatical elements". While for the influence of Sundanese in the structure of English sentences, it could be concluded that Sundanese interference can affect all parts of speech in sentences, either in word formation or in sentence structure formation. The researcher also found that there are three main factors that cause Sundanese grammatical interference in Nurul Wafa including: disloyalty to target language, "bad habits" in using English and also problems in mastering English vocabulary and grammar.
