Abstract
Code mixing is one of linguistic phenomenon which occurs in a communication process. So many people in the world use two or more languages in their daily lives. This phenomenon becomes a trend or style of communication in society and this code mixing is also studied in sociolinguistic. Therefore, this research related to the topic needs to be done with research questions: 1. What are the types of code mixing used in Gita Savitri Devi’s YouTube video Kita vs Body Image? 2. What are the levels of code mixing used in Gita Savitri Devi’s YouTubevideo Kita vs Body Image? 3. What is the meaning of words used as code mixing in Gita Savitri Devi’s YouTube video Kita vs Body Image? This research used descriptive qualitative method, and the theory used were from Hoffman (1991) about the types of code mixing, from Suwito (1983) about the levels of code mixing, and from Chaer (2007) about the lexical meaning. From the data analysis, the result showed that there were three types of code mixing: intra-lexical code mixing (54 data), intra- sentential code mixing (31 data), and involving a change of pronunciation of code mixing (2 data). Meanwhile, the levels of code mixing were: word level(47 data), phrase level (23 data), baster level (9 data), clause level (7 data), repetition level (1 data), and idiom level (0 data). Furthermore, the meaning of words used as code mixing showed that every single word had its own meaning even though the lexical words combined into a phrase or sentence. From the findings, the result of the research can be concluded that the most dominant type of code mixing was intra-lexical code mixing and the most dominant level of code mixing was word level. It means that intra-lexical and word level of code mixing can make easier for Gita Savitri to communicate because of her limitations in the Indonesian language and they are suitable for her because of her usual conversation that she does in her daily interaction.
