Abstract

Turn-taking is a basic form of organization in talk interactions to find out who has a turn to speak, what rules apply to take the floor, what rules apply to hold the floor and what specific signals appear in the conversation to signal a turn to speak. Therefore, this research was conducted to find out what turn-taking strategy was used and how it was allocated by one of the global boy groups from South Korea, namely NCT. This research used document analysis qualitative descriptive method. Theory used in this research is from Stenstrom (2014) on turn-taking strategies and Sacks (1974) on turn allocation. Based on the data analysis, the findings indicated that turn-taking strategies were found by taking the floor (41 data), holding the floor (26 data), and yielding the floor (2 data). Meanwhile, the turn-taking allocation were current speaker selects next speaker (13 data) and next speaker self-selects (9 data). Based on the findings of data analysis, it can be concluded that holding the floor with interruptions was the dominant turn-taking strategy in the conversation. However, the interruptions made by the participants were not all a nuisance because there were interruptions made to convey additional information. Furthermore, the current speaker selects next speaker was the most frequently used turn-taking allocation by the participants. This was because when the member who was talking did the opening for a new topic and had to choose another member as the next speaker so that the conversation ran smoothly.
