Abstract

Film is one of the media to convey messages to society in the modern era, as well as other literary works such as novels, poetry and drama. Harry Breadbeer's Enola Holmes film adapted from Nancy Springer's novel, The Case of the Missing Marquess: An Enola Holmes Mystery. This film depicts a breakthrough against the stigma and discrimination against women in England in the 19th century. The topic of feminism attracts attention because so far women are often portrayed only as passive narrative objects, even the main erotic objects in films. Using the theory of liberal feminism from Mary Wollstonecraft. The purpose of this study is to determine the meaning of the semiotic code regarding feminism at the level of reality and the level of ideology. The research approach used is a qualitative approach with John Fiske's semiotic analysis. The finding in this study is that there is a representation of the liberal feminism movement depicted through the character of Enola Holmes, who wants equality and equal rights in terms of education to politics. Film merupakan salah satu media untuk menyampaikan pesan kepada masyrakat di era modern, sama halnya dengan karya sastra yang lainnya seperti novel, puisi dan drama. Film Enola Holmes karya Harry Breadbeer yang diadaptasi dari novel Nancy Springer, berjudul The Case of the Missing Marquess: An Enola Holmes Mystery. Film ini menggambarkan pendobrakan atas stigma juga diskriminasi atas perempuan di Inggris pada abad ke-19. Topik feminisme menarik perhatian karena selama ini perempuan sering digambarkan hanya sebagai objek narasi yang pasif bahkan objek erotis utama dalam film. Menggunakan teori feminisme liberal dari Marry Wollstonecraft. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui bagaimana Film Enola Holmes mempresentasikan feminisme liberal yang diusulkan oleh Marry Wollstonecraft. Temuan dalam penelitian ini adalah terdapat reperesentasi gerkan feminisme liberal yang digambarkan melalui tokoh Enola Holmes, yang menginginkan kesetaraan dan hak yang sama dalam hal pendidikan hingga politik. Metode penelitian deskriptif dan kualitatif digunakan untuk meninjau data penelitian secara mendalam.
