Abstract

This research will discuss the effect of colonialism in Hotel Rwanda’s movie script. The focal focus of this research are 1) to find out colonial effect present in Hotel Rwanda’s script 2) to find out the dominant issue in Hotel Rwanda movie script along with the colonial effect presented. To find out the effect in this research, the researcher uses postcolonial theory to find the ideology of colonial that appear in the text. Postcolonial seek the relation of colonizer and colonized people. It is suitable to use for finding the effect of colonialism. The data takes from Hotel Rwanda’s movie script and those data are analyzed by postcolonial critic method. Postcolonial critics work through the colonial effect that represent in literature work. In analyzing the data researcher uses postcolonial theory based on the research question. To describe first question, the data arrange and put it separately based on kinds of colonial effect. The researcher describing the data as the major theme, and interpret the data using relevant theory to know the data as the effect of colonialism. Next, the researcher will work with the result of first question research to find the dominant issue in Hotel Rwanda’s movie script. The result of this analysis is show the effect of colonialism in the text. The researcher find there are four specific effects in this text such as the issue of racial discrimination as the effect of colonialism, Imitating colonial, Ethnic conflict, Image of Africa as effect of colonialism. The dominant issue that is present in this research along with the effect of colonialism such as are issue of racial discrimination and difference, issue of mimicry, the issue of ethnic cleansing or Genocide and the issue of representation of Africa in international world.
