Abstract
Intercultural Communicative Competence is one thing that is very common among EFL students. Furthermore, ICC can be more easily understood because there is a Cross-Cultural Understanding course. Therefore, Intercultural Communicative Competence can significantly impact students' academic activities. This research tries to incorporate Intercultural Communicative Competence in EFL Classes in dealing with discrimination. In particular, this study proposes to explore students’ perceptions of intercultural communicative competence in dealing with discrimination and the effects of cultural differences on students in EFL classes. This research adopts a qualitative research design with a case study approach to investigate the perceptions of Intercultural Communicative Competence in EFL Classes in dealing with discrimination and the effects of cultural differences on students in EFL classes. Questionnaires and interviews are the main instruments used to collect data. Questionnaires reveal students' knowledge and attitudes about Intercultural Communicative Competence. Furthermore, interviews were used to explore students' perceptions of intercultural communicative competence in dealing with discrimination and to find the effects of cultural differences in EFL classes. The research was conducted at Bandung State Islamic University, involving five students as participants. This study shows that students have their perceptions of intercultural communicative competence. Most students answered based on their personal experiences so that the responses could be authenticated and nothing was falsified. The researcher found that the impact of their cultural differences in the class was well implied, and they realized that this was very important and valuable for them, one of which was to add experience, knowledge, and relationships. The most important thing was tolerance for one another.
