Abstract

This study discusses about two research problems, there are the elements of magic aspect and Sabrina Spellman’s character in gaining gender equality in TV series: Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. The purpose from this study is to describe about the elements of magic that occur in TV series: Chilling Adventures of Sabrina using Marcel Mauss’s theory by finding the characteristics of the magician and action (rite) and analyzing how Sabrina’s character to gain gender equality for witches using Roland Barthes’s semiotic theory by determine the data in 3 forms such as denotation, connotation and myth. The writer using a qualitative method from where the data rely on dialogue and scene that contain the two research problems above. This study found that the elements of magic occurred in this series are in two forms, the magician (their ability and characteristics) and the actions (the rites that they do). Furthermore, Sabrina’s character to gain gender equality can be seen when Sabrina ran from her Dark Baptism and when she contributed in the election of Top Boy in the Academy of Unseen Art for making all students regardless from gender issue can feel like they have a voice.
