Abstract

Illocutionary act is the interpretation of a statement based on the speaker's intended meaning. Perlocutionary act is the effect a speech act has on the listener or audience. It is the intended or unintended impact that the speaker hopes to achieve through their speech act. This study aims to provide an analysis of the illocutionary and perlocutionary acts of Wanda Maximoff's utterances by examining the context, such as the setting of place, time, audience, and speaker of the utterances, as well as the speaker's manner of expression and the activity in which the speech was delivered. By summarizing the analysis' findings in a descriptive way, Creswell's descriptive qualitative technique is the applicable methodology. The study concludes that it has all five of Searle's illocutionary. The result obtained from this research's analysis are as follows: assertives and directives with 23 data in total, these two types are the two most frequently used types of illocutionary. The second most frequently used type is expressives with 13 data. The next type is commissive with five data, and the last type is declarative which is the least type of illocutionary act found with one data. The researcher discovered 63 data analyses for perlocutionary acts as a response from other characters. The most frequent response is emotional impact with 29 data. This shows that Wanda often succeeds in evoking other characters' emotions through her illocutionary acts. Next is persuasive with 23 data found, followed by performative with six data, and the last is informational impact with five data.
