Abstract

ENGLISH: Alpha female is a modern term given to women who have dominant traits in their group. This term appears in connection with the development of the feminist movement. This study analyzes how the characteristics of an alpha female are represented by the March Sisters in Louisa May Alcott's novel Little Women. Researcher used Manampiriring's alpha female theory to identify alpha female traits according to the categorization in The Alpha Girls Guide book. A person's attitude is based on certain reasons, therefore the factors that make the March Sisters have the alpha female characteristics are analyzed by Ward's theory of alpha female. The results show that the character Jo has the most alpha female characteristics among her sisters and the common factor of March sisters have the alpha female characteristics comes from parental support. INDONESIAN: Alpha female merupakan istilah modern yang diberikan kepada perempuan yang memiliki sifat dominan pada kelompoknya. Istilah ini muncul berkaitan dengan berkembangnya gerakan feminisme. Penelitian ini menganalisis bagaimana sifat atau ciri dari alpha female direpresentasikan oleh tokoh March Sisters pada novel Little Women karangan Louisa May Alcott. Peneliti menggunakan konsep alpha female yang diusung oleh Henry Manampiring untuk mengidentifikasi ciri perilaku alpha female berdasarkan pengkategorian yang tertera pada buku The Alpha Girls’ Guide. Perilaku seseorang dapat berdasarkan berbagai macam alasan, maka dari itu factor-faktor yang membuat March Sisters memiliki perilaku alpha female dianalisis menggunakan teori alpha female dari Ward. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa tokoh Jo yang paling banyak memiliki sifat alpha female diantara saudara-saudaranya dan faktor utamanya adalah dukungan dari orangtua.
