Abstract
This study is intended to figure out the teacher's process and challenges in the teaching of writing narrative text through animation movie. Specifically, this study aim to achieve the objectives: (1) How is the implementation of animation movie as a medium in teaching writing narrative text; (2) How is the teacher’s perceptions in teaching writing narrative text through animation movie. This study uses a qualitative method with a case study approach. The participant of this research is a teacher from SMAN 1 Kota Subulussalam and the researcher chooses one class of three classes in total. To obtain the data, the technique used to collect the data in this study were observation and interview. The observation data aim to explore the teacher's process in teaching writing narrative text by using animation movies. Then, the interviews were used to get the information about the teacher’s perceptions in teaching writing narrative text through animation movie. The findings show that first, regarding to the process of using animation movie in teaching writing narrative text was implemented with the procedure of teaching speaking divide into three sections; pre-activity, while-activity, and post-activity. Second, based on the interviews, the teacher gave the positive and negative perceptions but dominantly agreed to the implementation of animated short movie as the media that is suitable media in teaching writing narrative text to increase students’ motivation and ability in writing skill. Meanwhile in teaching wiriting narrative text using this short animated movie has some factors that make teachers find teaching writing challenges, especially related to the time, preperation, material, and the class condition that need to be overcomed. In conclusion, this research indicated that teaching writing narrative using animated short movie is very helpful and interesting for both teacher and students in supporting the teaching and learning activity. It also helps students in understanding the story in a fun way and increases their vocabularies and their idea in writing. However, the teacher’s difficulties in teaching writing narrative text through animation movie need to be overcomed by the good preperation before the class and match the tasks that they ask the learners to do with their language level.
