Abstract
In most of the cases, conversation needs two or more participants to engage in it. And there is only one participant who take turns in speaking at a time, while the other participants are listening to them. However, there are moments where a participant cannot wait for their turn and resulting in take the current speaker’s turn. This phenomenon is called turn-taking irregularities. It may occur because of participant’s interest. Thus, this study aims to analyze the use of the types of and the purposes of turn-taking irregularities in NCT 127’s interview with Korean Englishman YouTube Channel. The data of this study were analyzed by using theory of turn- taking irregularities’ types by Zimmerman & West which supported by several theory from Murata, Kennedy & Camden, Li, and Jefferson and turn-taking irregularities’ purposes by Wardhaugh, Cook, and Tannen. The method used in this study is qualitative research and conversation analysis. The result of the study reveals that the participants tend to use floor-taking interruption for the purpose of adding a further comment to a topic being discussed.
