Abstract
Students of SMK Tunas Sinar Mandiri, Tanjungsari Bogor). Teaching listening is one of the teachers' tasks in teaching English to improve students' English skills. Listening is the first and most fundamental skill beginners must learn when learning a new language, and listening is essential because it is used daily. To be a good listener, one must understand what the speaker is saying. Based on students' experience, some of them find it difficult to listen to English because the speech tempo is too fast, and pronunciation needs to be clearer for beginners. Therefore, this research proposes that effective classroom learning materials use authentic VOA video material to improve students' listening skills. The research was aimed (1) to find out how students' listening skills using authentic VOA video, (2) to find out how students' listening skills without using authentic VOA video, and the last (3) to find out whether there is a significant difference between students' listening skills using authentic VOA video and without authentic VOA video. This research used a quantitative method with quasi-experimental designs. The population in this research was class X SMK Tunas Sinar Mandiri, which is located in Jl. Transyogi Tanjungsari, Bogor, West Java. This research took two classes as the sample, namely the experimental and control groups. The participant was given a pre-test before treatments, and a post-test after the treatments, and the treatment was carried out three times. Then, student scores were processed in statistical analysis. The statistical calculation of the post-test scores showed that using authentic VOA videos effectively improved students' listening skills. It was proven by the result of the N-gain analysis that the mean of the experimental group was 61.36 with moderately effective, and the mean of the control group was 53.15 with less effective. Using authentic VOA video material has a significant difference in improving students' listening skills. In addition, this can be seen from the experimental t-count value is 14.769, and from the control group, it is 13.888, while the t-table value is 1.699. It means that the t-count is higher than the t-table. In conclusion, this research shows that using authentic VOA video material in learning English listening is beneficial. It makes students easier to understand the subject and improves their listening skills.
