Abstract

Bandung Raya Local Train is one of public transportation. The large amount of people is one of the reason safety sign appear. This thesis discusses Three trichotomies of safety sign on Bandung Raya Local Train through semiotic theory by Charles Sander’s Peirce of triadic model and Australian safety signs. This research use qualitative approach and use content analysis method. Content analysis method is used to analyze safety sign related to trichotomies. The objective of this research are (1) to find out the kinds of Representament, Object, and Interpretant related to safety signs on Bandung Raya Local Train (2) to reveal message meanings and its implementation of each sub-type of trichotomies based on safety signs that found on Bandung Raya Local Train. Meanwhile, the researcher found 14 data of qualisign, 22 data of sinsign, and 20 data of legisign as part of representament. 34 data of icon, 3 data of index, and 21 data of symbol as a part of object. 4 data of rheme, 6 data of decisign, and 39 data of argument as a part of interpretant. Moreover, the researcher also found the types of safety sign, based on Australian safety sign standards, namely, prohibition sign 10 data, warning sign 2 data, mandatory sign 16 data, emergency sign 3 data, information sign 7 data, and fire sign 1 data. Based on the data found, it can be conclude that PT. KAI gave so much effort for keeping passenger are safe while using the train. The effort are exist on safety sign that located on a train and the station. However, the awareness of passenger are still lack through certain sign. Thus, it can be used as an evaluation material for PT. KAI or Railways Company.
