Abstract

The background of this research is that, in the context of increasingly complex social and religious dynamics, the importance of moderate preaching is in the spotlight in maintaining harmony and tolerance in a diverse society. Moderate da'wah is a solution to solving various problems of the people that occur due to differences. The Ministry of Religion launched religious moderation with its four indicators as a reflection of moderate preaching in the midst of a multicultural Indonesian society. Religious instructors are figures in the Ministry of Religion who have full authority to promote moderate preaching based on these four indicators of religious moderation. This thesis aims to analyze how functional Islamic Religious Counselors in Cianjur Regency apply the concept of religious moderation in guidance and counseling activities as part of the implementation of da'wah. With a focus on four indicators of religious moderation: national commitment, tolerance, non-violence, and acceptance of tradition, this research traces the meaning, self-concept and experiences of Islamic Religious Counselors in Cianjur Regency in implementing these values in daily practice. Phenomenological studies with a symbolic interaction approach are used to explore meaning, self-concept and experience of moderate da'wah practices carried out by Islamic religious instructors in Cianjur Regency. Observations, in-depth interviews with relevant informants, and documentation are the means to explore findings about moderate da'wah based on these indicators of religious moderation. The results of the study show that religious instructors have a strategic role in spreading the values of religious moderation, in accordance with the implementation of their duties as State Civil Apparatuses under the auspices of the Ministry of Religion. Meaning, self-concept and experience of moderate da'wah cannot be separated from the implementation of these duties. Then, there is a distinctive difference between the general preacher and the Islamic Religious Counselor, even though both of them are active in the practice of moderate preaching. The implementation of moderate da'wah based on religious moderation indicators is carried out by Functional Islamic Religion Extensionists in Cianjur Regency in various tasks that accompany their main duties.
