Abstract

ENGLISH : The phenomenon of switching from one language to another in an utterance has become part of popular culture in society. Code-switching occurs in everyday life and is often found on social media. This research on code-switching between Indonesian and English found in the vlog of Leonardo Edwin's YouTube channel focusing on its types and functions. This research uses a qualitative method, with content analysis approach. The data used in this research are from transcription of the vlogs from Leonardo Edwin's YouTube channel. The analysis uses Poplack's (1980) theory to identify the type of code-switching and Hoffmann's (1991) theory to classify the function of code-switching. This study found 50 data identified based on the type of code-switching found 3 types of code-switching including which are tag switching (12 data), intra-sentential switching (36 data) and inter-sentential switching (2 data). Furthermore, this research found five out of seven functions of code-switching, which are the function of talking about a particular topic (37 data), being emphatic about something (7 data), interjection (4 data), repetition used for clarification (5 data), and the intention of clarifying the speech content for the interlocutor (6 data). In addition, the functions that are not found are code-switching of quoting someone else and expressing identity. In the vlog, there are not found speaker quoting other people's words and talking to show identity in English. INDONESIA : Fenomena peralihan dari satu bahasa ke bahasa lain dalam sebuah ujaran telah menjadi bagian dari budaya populer di masyarakat. Alih kode terjadi dalam kehidupan sehari-hari dan sering dijumpai di media sosial. Penelitian ini menguji jenis dan fungsi alih kode antara bahasa Indonesia dan bahasa Inggris yang terdapat dalam vlog kanal YouTube Leonardo Edwin. Metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan analisis isi digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini diambil dari transkrip salah satu vlog dari kanal YouTube Leonardo Edwin. Teori Poplack (1980) digunakan dalam mengidentifikasi jenis alih kode dan untuk mengklasifikasikan fungsi alih kode menggunakan teori Hoffmann (1991). Penelitian ini menemukan 50 data yang diidentifikasi berdasarkan jenis alih kode yang ditemukan 3 jenis alih kode diantaranya adalah tag switching (12 data), intra-sentential switching (36 data) dan inter-sentential switching (2 data). Lebih lanjut, penelitian ini menemukan lima dari tujuh fungsi alih kode, yaitu fungsi untuk membicarakan topik tertentu (37 data), menjadi penekanan terhadap suatu hal (7 data), interjeksi (4 data), pengulangan yang digunakan untuk memperjelas (5 data), dan maksud memperjelas isi tuturan untuk lawan tutur (6 data). Selain itu, terdapat 2 fungsi yang tidak ditemukan adalah alih kode untuk mengutip orang lain dan menyatakan identitas. Dalam vlog tersebut, tidak ditemukan penutur mengutip perkataan orang lain dan berbicara untuk menunjukkan identitas dalam bahasa Inggris.
