Abstract

English: Thematic role is the fundamental role a participant plays in some actual or imagined situation, apart from the linguistic encoding of those situations. This research is related to the topic of thematic role and the purposes are to analyze the kinds of thematic role and the differences among one thematic role and others in each sentence of news article COVID-19 vaccine point posted in The Jakarta Post. The writer employed a descriptive qualitative method and to analyze the data the main theory used was from Saeed. Based on the data analysis, the findings showed that the kinds of thematic role found in each sentence were: agent (14 data), theme (13 data), location (9 data), patient (7 data), source (6 data), experiencer (5 data), instrument (4 data), goal (3 data), dan beneficiary (1 data). Furthermore, the differences among each thematic role were based on the verb that accompanied it, such as the noun phrases had something to do with a verb and the role of participant. The verb explained the semantic relationship between the verb argument and the situation. From the findings of the data analysis, the result can be concluded that the dominant kind of thematic role was the agent. Meanwhile, the least frequently found one was beneficiary. It means that the use of thematic role agents is most commonly used in everyday life, especially in the news text writing. It is accordance with 5W 1H guidelines that the subject or person involved has an important role. Besides, the findings of each difference in thematic role are in accordance with predicate used in the sentence. Indonesian: Peran tematik adalah peran mendasar yang dimainkan partisipan dalam suatu situasi aktual atau khayalan terlepas dari pengkodean linguistik situasi tersebut. Penelitian ini berkaitan dengan topik peran tematik dan tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis jenis-jenis peran tematik dan perbedaan antara satu peran tematik dengan peran tematik lainnya pada setiap kalimat dalam artikel berita yang membahas tentang vaksin COVID-19 yang dimuat di The Jakarta Post. Penulis menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dan untuk menganalisis datanya, teori utama yang digunakan adalah teori Saeed. Berdasarkan analisis data, temuan menunjukkan bahwa jenis peran tematik yang terdapat pada setiap kalimat adalah: agent (14 data), theme (13 data), location (9 data), patient (7 data), source (6 data), experiencer (5 data), instrument (4 data), goal (3 data), dan beneficiary (1 data). Selanjutnya perbedaan masing-masing peran tematik didasarkan pada verba yang menyertainya, misalnya frasa nomina ada hubungannya dengan verba dan peran partisipan. Dalam artian kata kerja menjelaskan hubungan semantik antara argumen kata kerja dan situasi. Dari temuan analisis data, dapat disimpulkan bahwa jenis peran tematik yang dominan adalah agent. Sedangkan yang paling jarang ditemukan adalah beneficiary. Artinya penggunaan agent pada peran tematik paling banyak digunakan dalam kehidupan sehari-hari, khususnya dalam penulisan teks berita. Sesuai dengan pedoman 5W 1H bahwa subjek atau orang yang terlibat mempunyai peran penting. Selain itu, temuan setiap perbedaan peran tematik sesuai dengan predikat yang digunakan dalam kalimat tersebut.
