Abstract
Illocutionary Acts involve covert intentions communicated through speech, enabling speakers to convey desires and intepreted by the hearer to do something. This research aims to analyze the types and functions of Illocutionary Acts in YouTube Channel TED TALK with Elizabeth Gilbert. This research method is employed a descriptive qualitative and the theory used was from Searle (1976). The results showed that there are four types of illocutionary acts, they consisted of representative (41 data), directive (34 data), expressive (14 data), commissive (2 data) and there is no declaration in this research because there is not influencing or changing the world by virtue of the words spoken. While, the functions include of stating (21 data), informing (14 data), advising (12 data), and others. The dominance of representative type and stating function to suggest a focus on expressing, explaining, and guiding through various life aspects impacting mental well-being.
