Abstract

ENGLISH : This study aims to analyze the social dramaturgy aspect in the film "The Dark Knight Rises" using the qualitative descriptive method. The study is guided by the sociological perspective of Erving Goffman, who proposed the concept of front and backstage behavior as a way to understand social interaction. The objective of this study is to examine how the film represents the complex interplay between public and private behavior and how characters navigate different roles and expectations in their daily lives. The data was collected through a close reading of the film, focusing on the character interactions and the themes and symbols that are central to the narrative. The results show that "The Dark Knight Rises" portrays a complex interplay between front and backstage behavior, with characters shifting between public and private roles depending on the situation. For example, the character of Batman is seen as a protector of the city in his front stage role, while his private life is marked by his struggle with physical and emotional pain. Similarly, the character of Catwoman is depicted as a criminal in the front stage, but her backstage behavior reveals her to be a complex and multifaceted individual. Overall, this study demonstrates that the film "The Dark Knight Rises" provides a rich and nuanced representation of the social dramaturgy of daily life and highlights the ways in which characters navigate the interplay between public and private behavior. This study is significant because it sheds light on the role of the media in shaping our understanding of the complex interplay between public and private behavior, and provides a useful lens through which to analyze the representation of social dramaturgy in popular culture INDONESIA : Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis aspek dramaturgi sosial dalam film “The Dark Knight Rises” dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Studi ini dipandu oleh perspektif sosiologis Erving Goffman, yang mengusulkan konsep perilaku depan dan belakang panggung sebagai cara untuk memahami interaksi sosial. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menguji bagaimana film tersebut mewakili interaksi yang kompleks antara perilaku publik dan pribadi dan bagaimana karakter menavigasi peran dan harapan yang berbeda dalam kehidupan sehari-hari mereka. Data dikumpulkan melalui pembacaan film yang cermat, dengan fokus pada interaksi karakter dan tema serta simbol yang menjadi inti narasi. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa "The Dark Knight Rises" menggambarkan interaksi yang kompleks antara perilaku di depan dan di belakang panggung, dengan karakter yang berpindah antara peran publik dan pribadi bergantung pada situasi. Misalnya, karakter Batman terlihat sebagai pelindung kota dalam perannya di panggung depan, sedangkan kehidupan pribadinya ditandai dengan perjuangannya melawan rasa sakit fisik dan emosional. Demikian pula, karakter Catwoman digambarkan sebagai penjahat di panggung depan, tetapi perilakunya di belakang panggung menunjukkan bahwa dia adalah individu yang kompleks dan memiliki banyak segi. Secara keseluruhan, penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa film "The Dark Knight Rises" memberikan representasi yang kaya dan bernuansa dari drama sosial kehidupan sehari-hari dan menyoroti cara karakter menavigasi interaksi antara perilaku publik dan pribadi. Studi ini penting karena menyoroti peran media dalam membentuk pemahaman kita tentang interaksi kompleks antara perilaku publik dan pribadi, dan menyediakan lensa yang berguna untuk menganalisis representasi dramaturgi sosial dalam budaya populer.
