Abstract

This study attempts to examine the presumptions in ARMY's speech acts in a comment on the Weverse app. This app was released in 2019 and is dedicated to hosting media content and direct communication with fans and idols. This study aims to try to see how the reader's presupposition in speech acts in the expression of a fan to their idol on the special platform. This study applied qualitative description methods and the presupposition theory suggested by Yule (1996) and speech acts expressive type by Searle (1976) in a pragmatic framework to respond to the types both of them that will be used in this study. In this analysis, ten types of expressions were found, and the types of expressions of speech acts in 366 utterances are: 92 expressions for greeting, 87 expressions for love and affection, 65 of expression for wishing, 45 of expression for the compliment, 17 utterances of expression for thanking, 16 of expression for worried, 16 of expression for happiness, 15 of expression for sadness, 7 utterances of expression for congratulating, and 6 utterances of expression for apologizing are used in utterance expressive speech acts by ARMYs comments on BTS Weverse. The most commonly used by speakers is greeting. There are 92 utterances, so it can be assumed that these ARMY like to say greetings to their favorite idol. As for Yule’s six presuppositions, they were successfully found in the researcher's comment data, are: 88 of lexical presuppositions, 76 of existential presuppositions, 34 of non-factive presuppositions, 31 of factive presuppositions, 7 of structural presuppositions, and 7 for the counterfactual presuppositions that are found in presuppositions in expression by Army comments on BTS Weverse. Lexical presupposition contains 88 utterances are often used in the utterance.
