Abstract

This study explores students’ perceptions of using Grammarly’s AI for mastering English grammar skills. Specifically, this study reveals the use of Grammarly’s AI in three ways. The first is exploring students’ perceptions, the second is the advantages that students get, and the third is the challenges faced by students. This study used a qualitative method with a case study approach. 37 students in class A of the sixth semester of the English Education Department were chosen for this study. To collect the data, questionnaires and interviews were used in this study to answer the research questions. The findings show that there are three aspects of students’ perception, behavioral, affective, and cognitive. The cognitive aspect plays a central role in which the use Grammarly’s AI enables students to master grammar skills. Meanwhile, students get a lot of advantages when using Grammarly’s AI, they can improve their grammar skills. However, the premium version becomes a challenge when using Grammarly’s AI, because some features cannot be used by students due to its high cost. Based on the findings, the students’ perceptions have received positive results regarding the use of Grammarly’s AI for their English grammar skills mastery. However, there were advantages and challenges that students get when using Grammarly’s AI. In conclusion, the lecture may introduce this AI to students in order for them can practice writing in better grammar. This research suggests EFL students, lecturers, or other academics to be wiser in using Grammarly’s AI.
