Abstract

Pronunciation is one of the most important aspects of the English language. However, a lot of people find it difficult to learn pronunciation especially the sounds of English vowels (Crystal, 2008). Pronunciation is produced by humans through the speech organs, each of which has a specific position that varies to produce each sound, but the speaker is sometimes mistaken to pronounce it. Therefore, the researchers describe; 1) The types of vowels change in the pronunciation error of the members in Komunitas Speaker Muda Indonesia 2) The kinds of pronunciation errors of English vowels pronounced by the members in Komunitas Speaker Muda Indonesia (Indonesian Youth Speaker Community). The researchers used David Crystal's (2008) theory to answer this question. The researchers applied descriptive qualitative methods and data collection techniques in conducting this research. In this research, the researchers used qualitative with audio recording method. The researchers prepared the text master of ceremony that was read by the Members in Komunitas Speaker Muda Indonesia. The researchers analyzed by using Oxford dictionary based on SAE (Standard American English) to facilitate data analysis because of the phonetic symbol. In this analysis, the researchers found the types of vowel in the  pronunciation errors spoken by the members in Komunitas Speaker Muda Indonesia they are vowel monopthongs;  /iː/,/ɪ/,/e/,/æ/,/ə/,/ɜː/,/ʌ/,/ɑː/,/ɒ/,/ɔː/,/ʊ/, and /uː/. Vowel dipthongs; /eɪ/, /aɪ/, /əʊ/, /aʊ/, / /ɔɪ/, /ɪə/, /eə/, and /ʊə/. And vowel tripthongs /aɪə/, and /aʊə/. Furthermore, the researchers analyzed the kinds of pronunciation errors of English vowels pronounced by the Members in Komunitas Speaker Muda Indonesia there are substitution such as; /æ/ substituted /e/, /æ/ substituted /ʌ/, /æ/ substituted /ə/, /e/ substituted /ɪ/, /e/ substituted /ʌ/, /e/ substituted /ə/, /ɔː/ substituted /ʌ/, /ɔː/ substituted /ɒ/, /ɔː/ substituted /u:/, /ɒ/ substituted /ʊ/, /ɒ/ substituted /ʌ/, /ɑː/ substituted /e:/, /ɑː/ substituted /ʌ/, /ʌ/ substituted /ɒ/, /ʌ/ substituted /ɔː/, /ʌ/ substituted /u:/, /ɜː/ substituted /a:/, /ə/ substituted /ɒ/, /ə/ substituted /e/, /ə/ substituted /ʌ/, /ə/ substituted /ɔ:/, /ə/ substituted /ɪ/, /ə/ substituted /ʊ/, /i:/ substituted /e/, /iː/ substituted /ə/, /iː/ substituted /a:/, /ɪ/ substituted /ə/, /ʊ/ substituted /ɔː/, /ʊ/ substituted /ə/, /ɪ/ substituted /e/, /ɪ/ substituted /ə/, /ʊ/ substituted /ɒ/, /ʊ/ substituted /ɔː/, /ʊ/ substituted /ə/, /eɪ/ substituted /aɪ/, /aɪ/ substituted /eɪ/, /ɪə/ substituted /e/, /aʊ/ substituted /ɒ/, /əʊ/ substituted /ɒ/, /əʊ/ substituted /ɒʊ /, and /əʊ/ substituted /ɔː/.
