Abstract

Reading is one of the Language skill which is very complex for the students to learn. Most of Junior High School students are found having difficulties in comprehending an English Text. Therefore, this research studies the use of picture books as a media to improve students’ reading comprehension in narrative text. The purpose of this study are: (1) to describe the students’ ability of reading narrative text before using picture books as a media; (2) to describe the students’ ability of reading narrative text after using picture books as a media; and (3) to know the difference of students’ ability of reading narrative text before and after using picture books as the media. This research uses a quantitative method. This research takes one class as the sample by using nonprobability sampling from the 8th Grade Junior High School Students of SMPN 1 Pusakanagara. They are taught by using picture books. The data is collected by using tests: pretest and posttest.
