Abstract

This thesis studies the symbols. This theme was chosen by the writer since the writer know that myths and symbols are examined in the science of signs known as semiotic. Semiotic is part of the study of literature, with that symbol can be wherever and whenever including in a film. Most of all people watch a film only as mere entertainment, without regard to other things that come from the show, such as symbols and myths. Here, the writer intends to explore how much the use of symbols in a movie is, because of its unlimited use. Based on the background of the above problem, the writer chooses a script the film from Mike Mitchell, the Trolls movie to be analyzed as research objects. There are three formulations of the problem that the writer found. There are denotation questions and color symbol connotation in the Trolls movie. The next is about the color myth which was presented in the Trolls movie. Of the three statement problem above, then it will be analyzed by using signification of two phases by Roland Barthes. By using that theory, the denotation and connotation will be appeared by itself, and so the myth. Myth will be appeared when the connotation was appeared. The method used in this study is the method qualitative. This method was chosen by the writer because in this study, the writer did not use a count of numbers to get a result. From the results of research that has been done, it turns out in the Trolls movie shows that there are denotations and connotations of color symbols that exist in the film. Author also found that there was a myth that was confronted with the Trolls movie like similarity. In the end the writer came to a conclusion that film is not just a spectacle mere entertainment, but can also be used as a means to convey the message is hidden behind symbols that appear throughout the story.
