Abstract

The characterization and conflict are an important element in the movie script, because the story will not build without these two elements. This thesis discusses about characterization and conflict of John Nash in A Beautiful Mind movie script. That movie script tell about John Nash, a man who has experiences hallucination in his life. The purpose of this thesis are to find out the characterization and internal conflict that experienced by John Nash in A Beautiful Mind movie script. This research uses personality theory by Heymans and supported by Rusdi Maslim theory with descriptive qualitative method. As the result, the conflict is mental disorder experienced by John Nash. This research finds three categories of characterization, they are emotionality, accompaniment process, and activity. In source of data, there are 15 emotionality, 9 accompaniment processes, and 15 activities. Therefore, there are 39 data related to characterization of the main character found in the source of data. The conflict of this movie script is about mental disorder. There are eight kinds of mental disorder but in this research, the researcher only found three kinds, there are; schizophrenia, depression, and mental retardation. Schizophrenia dominates the script found in it, 8 data. Meanwhile depression is 3 data and mental retardation is 1 data. It is show that the story of script has schizophrenic illness as a theme.
