Abstract
In this increasingly sophisticated era, the presence of Google Translate is a solution for students’ to help their learning process. By using Google Translate students can easily translate English texts to help them do their assignment. This study aims (1) To find out students’ perception of Google translate in relation to students’ translation work in English Education Department at UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung. (2) To explore the way Google Translate help students in their translation process at UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung. This study applied a qualitative research approach, particularly descriptive study design. Descriptive study implemented because this research explored the role of Google Translate in students translation work implemented in the fifth semester students of English Education Department in UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung academic year 2019. The participants of this study were nine students of B class. The data obtained from Observation, questionnaire, and interview based on the theory of Clifford, Merschel, and Munne (2016) and Parwanti (2015). The result of the research shows that 100% students claim that they have ever used Google Translate because Google Translate is easy to use, practical, and save the time especially when they have limit time to understand an English text, 56% students believe that Google Translate help students in learning,44% students use Google Translate to find new vocabulary,89% students claim that Google Translate help them translating better, 100% students will still use Google Translate although the result of Google Translate sometimes doesn’t accurate, but students feel can get a lot of benefit from Google Translate . Most students always edit and revise the results of the Google Translate result from accuracy to grammar accuracy. Most students consider that Google Translate is very important in the process of translating the target language into their learning activities. , and students have good impression of Google Translate. In conclusion, this research shows that the existence of Google Translate is very useful and cannot be separated from students. Google Translate helps students with all its simplicity and speed which only takes a few seconds to translate. Google Translate is effective for students to translate books, article, or tasks to make easy in understanding the content of the material. Although Google Translate is not perfect yet, but Google Translate still a translator tool that is widely used by students.
