Abstract

Communicative Translation as skill has been regarded as special discipline within translation theory. Scholars and professional practitioners have developed methods and views regarding this matter. The development of communicative translation skill is related closely to language comprehension in general. Any attempts to acquire new language can use translation as one of the approaches. The purposes of this research are: (1) To find out students’ communicative translation skill; (2) To find out how watching subbed movie develop students’ communicative translation skill; (3) To find out significance of students’ communicative translation skill before and after the treatments. This is a quantitative research with a quasi-experimental approach and using one group pretest-posttest as research design. The participant of this research included 5th semester of English Education Department students in UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung. This research finds that watching subbed movie develops students’ communicative translation skill. The data is collected using pretest and posttest and then analyzed using SPSS for Windows. The result of this research presents 0,162 points of gain which is categorized as low, this result can be assumed by the low increase in gain score between the pretest and the posttest. To conclude, watching subbed movie can be implemented as one of the methods to improve students’ communicative translation skill. Referring to the result of this research, there is a significant improvement in students’ communicative translation skill.
