Abstract

Several problems were found in teaching and learning speaking activities. The most common problem in speaking subject is lack of interest students’ because the use of methods and media used in learning is less creative. It makes students not so interested in learning speaking so they cannot communicate effectively and confidently in English. The aim of this research was to show whether there is improvement of students’ speaking ability after using Video Blog (Vlogs) as a learning project. The researcher used quantitative approach based on One-Group pretest-posttest design. The study involved the twelfth grade students of SMA Karya Budi Bandung. The sample consisted of 29 students as the experimental group. The experimental group was exposed to Vlogs as learning project in teaching-learning of speaking skills. This research was held in 6 meetings involved one pre-test, four meetings for treatments, and one post-test. The data were obtained by pretest and posttest. The pretest was given before the treatment and the posttest was given after the treatment. In analyzing the data, the researcher used analytical statistics SPSS v.28 and t-test. The pre-test result, after analyzing the collected data, showed that the average score of students’ speaking ability before using Vlogs was 38.07, which means to the low category. On the other hand, the post-test result after the implementation of the Vlogs indicated an average post-test score of 66.34 which means to the high category. The result of calculating T-test statistic is on the significance (2-sided) of the data which is 0.001<0.005. It can be interpreted that Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. It means that there is a significant effect of Video Blog to improve students’ speaking skills. Based on all the data calculation, it can be concluded that there was a significant effect of Vlog as learning project in improving students’ speaking ability. It is suggested to use Video Blog (Vlog) as a teaching technique to improve students’ speaking ability.
