Abstract
This research is motivated by the difficulties of students in listening. In addition, to solve problems and develop students' listening skills, the Gap-Fill technique as a teaching strategy can be used in teaching listening. There are three objectives of this study: (1) To figure out the student’s listening skills before using the gap-fill techniques, (2) To figure out the student’s listening skills after using the gap-fill techniques, and (3) To figure out the significant difference between the students listening skill before and after using the gap-fill techniques. This is a pre-experimental study with one experimental group of 20 eight grade students from one of Indonesia's Junior High Schools. The group was taught using the Gap-Fill technique to enhance the students' listening skill. The data were the results of a listening test, given to the students before and after treatment (pretest and posttest). Furthermore, the data were analyzed for statistical analysis. The statistical results of the data analysis show that the average score of students' tests before using the Gap-Fill technique is 40.50, which indicates a low category, and the average score of the posttest after using the Gap-Fill technique is 75.00, which indicates a high category. Furthermore, the tcount (5) was higher than the ttable in terms of significance (0.95). H0 is rejected, and H1 is accepted. This indicates that students’ listening skill is significant. It can be concluded that Gap-Fill technique can enhance students’ listening skill at MTs Al-Huda Bandung. The researcher suggests that this learning method can be useful for teachers and students in teaching and learning English listening.
