Abstract

The model of teaching the skill of writing in many Islamic institutes is still traditional, as the attitude of students is not interactive in the process of teaching and learning, and this is reflected in the low motivation of students and their skills in the writing skill that was studied for their Arabic skills. Then, teaching the writing skill based on collaborative learning must be designed so that the learner is more interactive in the teaching and learning process so that students' motivation and academic achievement rise. The research aims to develop a writing skill teaching model in the light of collaborative learning and to know its effectiveness for students' motivation and to improve their academic achievement at Daar El Istiqomah Modern Islamic Boarding Serang Banten. The research used the research and development approach with a merger between the collaborative learning design model and the Four-D's model, which consists of four stages: definition, design, development and dissemination. The finding of this research results: (1). The developed writing skill teaching model consists of: (a). Using the collaborative approach (b). Using the collaborative learning strategy (suspense, exploration, interpretation, expansion and evaluation), (c). Use of teaching methods (lectural method, discussion method, electic method, problem-solving method, and functional method). This model is achieved in the developed education strategy on the basis of collaborative learning, and it consists of: teaching materials, teaching steps, teaching activities, and evaluation. Based on the evaluation of the experts, the teacher and the students, the validity of the model is very good (average score 87.33) and it is valid to be used in teaching writing skill. (2). The developed model is effective for students' motivation. This result is inferred from the data obtained from the work evaluation and the work file. (3). The developed model is also effective in improving students' achievement of the composition subject. This result is inferred from the comparison between the results of the pre- and post-test. And depending on the result of the statistical calculation, it was known that the estimate of t-count (26,781) more than the estimate of t-table value (1.98) This indicates that the result of the experiment has significant differences between the result of the pre and post test, and therefore the substitution hypothesis is acceptable while the small hypothesis returned. The conclusion of the research is that learning composition is more effective for mastering the skill of writing the Arabic language if its teaching model takes great care of the learner's position as the focus of teaching and learning through exploratory, applied and cooperative activities.
