Abstract

ENGLISH : This study aims to analyze the character of Charlotte in the film Lost in Translation (2003) using Jacques Lacan's psychoanalytic theory. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative using Lacanian theory. This study aims to identify the main character's internal conflicts that are faced by Charlotte with two problem formulations, namely 1. How is the mechanism of Charlotte's character in the film Lost in Translation? and 2. How is Charlotte's character built in Lost in Translation? The results of the study show that Charlotte's internal conflict is related to the identity and role of women in society. Through Lacanian analysis, it can be seen that this conflict arose as a result of a disagreement between his self-image (imaginary) and the self-image desired by society (symbolic). Charlotte is confused about who she really is, and has difficulty living up to society's expectations of her role as a wife and mother. This research contributes to the understanding of the psychological complexities of Charlotte's character in Lost in Translation and can also open up discussions about the role of women in a society full of social pressures INDONESIA : Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis karakter tokoh Charlotte dalam film Lost in Translation (2003) menggunakan teori psikoanalisis Jacques Lacan.
