Abstract
In News articles with intriguing tittles began to appear to attract page clicks and views related to online news media traffic. Tragically, the intriguing titles presented are often not in accord with the published article content. This research aims to uncover media motives behind clickbait headlines in the attention economy era. This research uses the research object of the media portal Tribun Jabar, January — March 2023 edition. This research employs a descriptive study by conducting in-depth interviews with three informants and observing the tittles that are being broadcasted through their channel, Tribun Jabar. The theory used is the Theory of Political Economy and Communication (PEC) model conducted by Dallas W.Smythe and Herbert I.Schiler. The results of the study shows: 1) Tribun Jabar implements a strategy of differentiation and SEO optimazation in making its title; 2) The external environment of the media business results in a shift in the internal motives of media portals; 3) The attention economy era has a major impact on the creation and implementation of news portal media strategies.
