Abstract

Semiotics is the branches of linguistics. Semiotics is a scientific discipline and analytical method that can examine the signs contained in an object to find out the meaning contained in the object. The purposes of this study are to analyze the Tagline and The Representamen, Object and Interpretant of the tagline appearing on War Propaganda Posters in Canva.Com Design Inspiration Articles. As a tool to analyze, the researcher uses Peirce’s semiotic theory as main theory which consists of representamen, object and interpretant. The object used in this study were 20 war propaganda posters from Canva.com Design Inspiration Articles. The War Propaganda Posters object was chosen because the War Propaganda Posters has incredible meaning that can make people got provoked. The form of the method used in this research is qualitative research. This form of research was chosen because it produces written descriptive data that explain the process of semiotic analysis contained in War Propaganda Posters. For the result of this semiotics analysis, researcher found that all posters can be analyzed by every aspect of Triadic theory of signs by Peirce’s and can be separated by negative and positive posters. The Representamen is a sign that can represent something else or the ideas of the poster, The Object is the tagline and the illustration images, The Interpretant is the combination of the Representamen and the Object then it produced the interpretation or the meaning of the poster. There are some similar things used in War Propaganda Poster such as the representamen in The War propaganda Poster usually using the expectation images and invitation Tagline to attract the readers.
